Kalah (also known as kalaha, mankala, bantumi and several other names) is the most famous modern mancala game. It was invented by William Julius Champion Jr in 1940.
For many people, specially in the USA, it is the only mancala game known (and usually they call it mancala or mankala) and they think it is an ancient African game, tipically of Aegiptian origin. In fact it is really close to mancala games played in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Phillipines, with the only difference of being played in single laps. [ + ]
