Nyakun is a mancala game which was invented in 1996 by Didier Guillion in Toulouse, France. Didier developed Awale, a shareware program to play 16 mancala games. However, many have incorrect or adapted rules, either because they are based on unreliable sources or because deliberately the size of the board and the number of counters was changed to facilitate their implementation. Nyakun is a variant of vai lung thlan from which it differs only in the following:

  • Nyakun is played with four seeds per hole.

Initial position
  • Play is counter-clockwise. A player can begin his move on either side of the board.
  • The Awale help file says that nobody captures the remaining seeds, however, this makes no sense as the board is always empty at the end of the game.
